As part of its Omni-channel digital strategy, Sibelco has identified the need to centrally manage their product information in order to improve the quality, completeness and consistency of product information across their various ERPs.
At the start of the project the product data of Sibelco was divided over different ERPs where each system has its own formats and values, only few standardizations were present over the systems and products could exist multiple times separately over the different ERPs. All this results in fragmented data across various systems which was managed inconsistently throughout the business.
To address these challenges, Sibelco had decided to kick off a Product Information Management (PIM) program; the goal of which will be to create a central, authoritative source of master data. This along with Master Data Management processes for the effective governance and stewardship of data in order to ensure availability, completeness and quality. The success of the program was to make a full analysis of the present business flows and deploy an MDM software package to support the data management processes.
After the analysis phase we were able to draw a new datamodel and identify all the standard data Sibelco wanted to use, this resulted in the creation of user stories. The implementation phase of their PIM system took place in four sprints that ended with a demo of the configured functionalities. All the user stories and sprints were logged in a standard tool used by Sibelco to track their progress. Hereby Sibelco had all the stories and test comments logged for later usage.
At the end of the last sprint we trained the admin users and handed over the training documentation.
The result was a future proof PIM implementation which is the only source of truth (golden record) for creating items which can be sent to different ERP systems all over the world to Sibelco Business units. This way of working brings a lot of good communications in the organization between the business units and the supporting several departments like Finance, Procurement ao.
